Cho Ray Hospital is a prominent one in the examination and treatment of Diabetes Mellitus . The hospital has a Diabetic Foot Unit (DFU), which specializes in treating the non-healing wounds of diabetic foot. Patients have been treated and cared for wounds by the advanced techniques of debridement, modern modern wound dressings…
According to statistics of the International Diabetic Federation (IDF), the number of diabetic patients with foot ulcers accounts for 10% of the treatment patients. In which, 85% of patients with diabetes are at risk of having to have their legs amputated when they have ulcers.
From the the circumstance mentioned above, with the desire to bring about one of the effective solutions in the care and treatment of diabetic foot wounds, on July 18, 2023 at the Diabetic Foot Unit of Endocrinology Department, Cho Ray Hospital, DTP MEDICAL had a product presentation to introduce to doctors and nurses about WOUND, a novel film-forming technology – an “all-in-one” solution originated from Switzerland helps manage and accelerate the healing of ulcers caused by diabetes.

WOUND is a patented and CE-certified film-forming technology that contains 2 types of oils: Neem and St. John’s Wort. The special combination with synergistic effects of the two natural oils above forms a thin film on the wound surface, preventing water loss from the ulcer due to the hydrophobic nature of the oil. By reducing water loss, WOUND creates a moist wound environment, which accelerates the healing process and induces the impressive granulation tissue even in chronic, deep and difficult-to-heal ulcers caused by diabetes mellitus.
This is appreciated as an obvious and differentiated benefit of WOUND compared to other wound care products in the market. WOUND helps to support the treatment of open wounds, both on wet and dry wounds, to help the wound close quickly while minimizing scar formation.
In addition, the skin of patients with chronic ulcers will not be supplied with enough blood and nutrients, leading to dryness and scaling, which reduces the skin barrier function. During the healing process, the peri-wound and wound edge may become vulnerable to breakdown as a result of prolonged exposure to the moisture of exudate. Therefore, improving the elasticity, recovering the protective barrier function of the peri-wound as well as protecting the wound from maceration is an extremely important part of the wound care caused by diabetic complications.
PhD. Lam Van Hoang, Head of Endocrinology Department, Cho Ray Hospital, said that WOUND promises to be one of the good solutions to help manage and protect the peri wound and wound edges effectively. 5 types of fatty acids with strong antibacterial effect in WOUND will attack, inactivate and lyse the bacterial cell wall, thus helping prevent infection effectively but not causing the cytotoxicity (Desbois and Smith, 2010).

Endocrinologists believe that ulcers on diabetic patients have the ability of infection and can progress to gangrene leading to amputation if not treated properly and promptly. Therefore, WOUND is recommended to be used as soon as possible to prevent infection of the ulcer, avoiding the unfortunate consequences of diabetic complications.
Symptoms of foot ulcers are also changes in skin color and temperature, accompanied by wound exudates with a very unpleasant odor. Foot ulcers also make patients feel painful and even unable to move. WOUND solves most of these problems thanks to its natural scent that covers the one of exudate ; the oil film also will not allow the secondary dressing to adhere to the wound and the skin surrounding the wound, thereby not causing pain during the wound care process. More importantly, because of its wound care simplification, WOUND also helps reduce the frequency of dressing changes and debridement.
For patients with diabetes, even a very small wound, if not monitored and treated in time, can lead to a smoldering infection. Therefore, use WOUND as soon as possible to heal the non-healing wound in the most effective and safest way.

Through the presentation at the Diabetic Foot Unit, DTP MEDICAL gave an product overview as well as highlighted the ingredients, mechanism and differentiated benefits of WOUND in the treatment of acute/chronic wounds, deep/hard-to-heal wounds in general and diabetic foot wounds in particular.
In addition, DTP MEDICAL also emphasized some practical cases of using WOUND in wound treatment at hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City to demonstrate the efficiency and safety of this novel product.
DTP MEDICAL would like to sincerely thank the Diabetic Foot Unit/Endocrinology Department, Cho Ray Hospital for giving the opportunity to get close to patients and doctors working at the Department. We hope that this will be a favorable first step for both DTP MEDICAL and Endocrinology Department to continue to cooperate in the near future to bring the patients one of the best wound care solutions.
