Product Presentation at Orthopaedic & Burn Department, Children’s Hospital 2 with The Topic: “Simplifying Wound Care, Managing Itch, and Treating Post-Burn Scars”

On November 8, 2023, at the Orthopaedic & Burn Department, Children’s Hospital 2, DTP MEDICAL had a chance to introduce to doctors and nurses the  solutions to help simplify burn wound care as well as manage itching and treat abnormal scarring after burns. These benefits can contribute to improving the patient’s quality of life both during and after discharge from hospital.

The presentation in turn provided an overview of the ingredients,  mechanism and advantages of the three products for the comprehensive treatment of burns from open to completely healed wound (aftercare): WOUND (simplification of wound care) – ALHYDRAN Barrier Repair Care (management of post-burn itching and skin tension) – NOURISIL MD(management of hypertrophic burn scars).

WOUND is a patented film-forming technology from Switzerland. With the combined effects of main ingredients including Neem oil and John’s Wort, WOUND is considered an ideal solution to accelerate the wound healing and minimize scars formation.

WOUND forms an oil film containing fatty acids that covers the wound and surrounding skin to create a moist wound environment, which  promotes  rapid granulation and activates the body’s physiological healing process.

At the Orthopaedic & Burn Department, pain during dressing change in children is one of the most concerning problems that causes difficulties for doctors and nurses. And WOUND is considered an ideal solution to solve this problem. WOUND’s oil film prevents the secondary dressing from adhering to the wound and to the skin around wound , thereby providing the benefits of atraumatic and painless dressing change.

The presentation also highlighted a clinical study that Dr. S.Mainetti (Viedma Hospital, Bolivia)  and his colleagues conducted with 9 pediatric patients (1 month – 11 years old) presenting with mixed, partial or full-thickness second degree  burns to evaluate the effectiveness of WOUND. Dr. S.Mainetti concluded: “The most prominent clinical significance of WOUND is related to its ability to reduce the use of topical antibiotics/antiseptics without exposing the patient to risk of infectious complications, while effectively reducing pain and achieving really good cosmetic results.”

Dr. Truong Anh Mau, Deputy Head of the Orthopaedic & Burn Department, has highly appreciated the  effectiveness of pain relief during dressing change (and throughout the entire treatment ) as well as the convenience of WOUND film-forming technology. Doctors also have hoped that WOUND is a really promising solution that brings many positive benefits in the care of children’s burn wounds.

In addition, pediatric patients also have to face the conditions of itching and skin tightness after burn injuries. These symptoms not only cause discomfort but interfere with the patient’s daily activities. That is why the need for an early-stage burn scar management to reduce unpleasant symptoms (such as itching, redness and skin tightness) becomes increasingly urgent.

ALHYDRAN Barrier Repair Care,  a clinically proven formula developed by BAP MEDICAL, Netherlands, helps prevent post-burn  itching and skin tightening. With a main ingredient of more than 45% pure and  fresh Aloe Vera Aruba gel enriched with Beta-Glucan, Bisabolol and Allantoin,  ALHYDRAN Barrier Repair Care is has been widely used in several medical facilities, university hospitals, burn centers and rehabilitation centers across Europe for over 15 years.

Department of Burns and Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, Gent University Hospital (Belgium) has used ALHYDRAN Barrier Repair Care for about 50% of burn patients to evaluate the effectiveness of post-burn scar treatment such as increasing skin elasticity, reducing itching and drying, creating  good cosmetic results. The study was presented at the 2007 European Burn Association (EBA) Conference.

Scar management is also an important part of post-burn recovery. Hypertrophic scars after burns  may cause negative consequences for pediatric patients. For prevention, we should treat children scars right after the burn wound closure, and  silicone-based  products are recommended as first-line therapy in the management of hypertrophic burn scars. With a unique combination of 5 types of Silicones enriched with Vitamin E, Nourisil MD gel is a clinically- proven silicone therapy for preventing and treating hypertrophic burn scars.

Nourisil MD is highly appreciated for its quick-drying( in just 60 seconds) and non-sticky gel. The product does not contain fragrances and preservatives, which are suitable for all skin types including sensitive skin and baby skin.

DTP MEDICAL has  hoped that the solutions mentioned above will partly meet the needs of doctors and nurses  at the Orthopaedic & Burn Department, Children’s Hospital 2. More importantly, WOUND – ALHYDRAN Barrier Repair Care – Nourisil MD is also a solution to help patients reintegrate into the community, which contributes to improving patient’s quality of life.
