On December 12, 2023, DTP MEDICAL organized a seminar of product presentation at the Burn – Plastic Surgery Department, Children’s Hospital 2 with the goal of providing the solutions on simplifying wound care, managing itch, and treating abnormal scars after burns.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Diep Que Trinh (Head of Burn – Plastic Surgery Department) and 14 doctors and nurses. Through this presentation, DTP MEDICAL aspires to provide one of the most comprehensive and optimal solutions for treating burn injuries, from non-epithelialized stage (WOUND for wound care simplicity) to wound closure (NOURISIL MD for scar treatment). At the same time, managing irritation and skin tension (ALHYDRAN Barrier Repair Care) is imperative to improve the quality of life of post-burn patients.

Burn patients often have to undergo many hours of wound care. WOUND, a film-forming technology originating from Switzerland, is considered an ideal solution to care for burn injuries in children. WOUND simplifies wound care, accelerates the wound healing process and brings good cosmetic results.

With ingredients containing two types of Neem oil and John’s Wort, WOUND forms an oil film containing fatty acids that covers the wound and surrounding skin to create a moist wound environment, which promotes rapid granulation and activates the body’s physiological healing process.

WOUND provides daily nutrition to the wound to promote the impressive growth of granulation tissue, especially also supporting the secondary wound healing.
Besides, WOUND has an antibacterial effect without cytotoxic side effects inhibiting the wound healing process. Fatty acids, such as oleic acid and linoleic acid contained in WOUND, will coat bacterial cell membranes to immobilize bacteria and cause lysis of bacterial cell walls.

Nurses at the Department of Burns and Plastic Surgery, Children’s Hospital 1 said that wounds caused by burn injuries tend to be large in size with surface area exposed to the gauze and dressing. Therefore, changing dressing can cause pain and tissue damage, affecting granulation and re-epithelialization due to adhesion of the dressing to the wound bed.
Pain during dressing change in children is one of the most concerning problems that causes difficulties for doctors and nurses. And WOUND is considered an ideal solution to solve this problem. WOUND’s oil film prevents the secondary dressing from adhering to the wound and to the skin around wound , thereby providing the benefits of atraumatic and painless dressing change.

The presentation also highlighted the prominent benefits of WOUND compared to other products through its strong clinical studies.

Particularly, WOUND helps to improve the cost-effectiveness and wound care simplicity because of reducing the significant treatment cost, the frequency of dressing changes, frequency of debridement, and hospital stay time. With WOUND’s ease of use, relatives and patients can participate in wound care at home without going to medical facilities.

In addition, pediatric patients also have to face the conditions of itching and skin tightness after burn injuries. These symptoms not only cause discomfort but interfere with the patient’s daily activities. That is why the need for an early-stage burn scar management to reduce unpleasant symptoms (such as itching, redness and skin tightness) becomes increasingly urgent.

ALHYDRAN Barrier Repair Care, a clinically proven formula developed by BAP MEDICAL, Netherlands, helps prevent post-burn itching and skin tightening. With a main ingredient of more than 45% pure and fresh Aloe Vera Aruba gel enriched with Beta-Glucan, Bisabolol and Allantoin, ALHYDRAN Barrier Repair Care is has been widely used in several medical facilities, university hospitals, burn centers and rehabilitation centers across Europe for over 15 years. The unique combination of ingredients of ALHYDRAN Barrier Repair Care helps optimize barrier repair and protects damaged skin by providing optimal moisturizing and occlusive properties.

Dr. Le Huu Phuoc, Deputy Head of Burn – Plastic Surgery Department, has been very impressed with the differentiation of ALHYDRAN Barrier Repair Care compared to other conventional products due to the ideal combination of two properties: occlusion and intensive moisturizing (hydration). ALHYDRAN Barrier Repair Care creates a semi-occlusive oil film that helps reduce water loss through the skin, and with its strong moisturizing property, ALHYDRAN Barrier Repair Care helps provide an intensive and lasting hydration. These properties have been proven through clinical studies.

Research by the Burn Rehabilitation Center, Bad Klosterlausnitz (Germany), has shown that ALHYDRAN Barrier Repair Care delivers the impressive results in the management of post-burn itching, redness and tension. After 4 weeks of using ALHYDRAN Barrier Repair Care, patients experienced reduced redness (20.4%) and skin tension (16.9%), as well as reduced itching (13.5%) and dry skin (13.8%). The research was presented at the 2011 European Burn Association (EBA) Conference.

This study also shows that the use of ALHYDRAN Barrier Repair Care can reduce burn scar formation by about 67% and increase quality of life by up to 12.6%. In particular, the use of antihistamines decreased by nearly 34% during treatment without causing any side effects.

Scar management is also an important part of post-burn rehabilitation. Keloids and hypertrophic scars after burns are not only problems during treatment, but also lead to psychological effects, especially in children. For prevention, we should treat children’ scars right after the burn wound closure, and silicone-based products are recommended as first-line therapy in the management of hypertrophic burn scars.
With a unique combination of 5 types of Silicones enriched with Vitamin E, Nourisil MD gel is a clinically- proven silicone therapy for preventing and treating hypertrophic burn scars. Nourisil MD is highly appreciated for its quick-drying( in just 60 seconds) and non-sticky gel. The product does not contain fragrances and preservatives, which are suitable for all skin types including sensitive skin and baby skin.

With the success of the product presentation and positive feedback from doctors and nurses, DTP MEDICAL hopes to have more cooperative opportunities to improve the quality of life of pediatric patients.
